Nina Končareva

Sunday morning underneath Stara planina*
The sun shines on wedding kolo* and the guests
Thin, tall girls, with hands full of gifts, are dancing
The prettiest of them all, in a white dress, Nina Končareva
Beautiful girls, wedding doves, are dancing on their own
Because there are no men in this village underneath Stara planina

A gunshot echoed through the sky, froze the wedding party
Two grey falcons woundedly cried out and started flying
The forest shook, the birds and Stara Planina went silence
Two riders on black horses flew out of the forest
The sun has set, the evening came, there was no one in the village
And Nina Končareva, in her white dress, was waiting for her darling

Black horses were carried by rage, the riders were tired
White shirt, red, bloody, was lowered in front of her
She took the white shirt, bloody, she brought it closer to her chest
And for a very long time, Nina Končareva hugged her darling
The night has passed, the dawn was shining over the village beneath the mountain
And white dress of mute and stiff Nina Končareva
And white dress of mute and stiff Nina Končareva

My father

My father was a partisan
But today, he reads newspapers
And keeps silent about his dreams
He doesn't complain, doesn't ask

He hangs the Red flag
Rarely, only during holidays
And whispers, over a sigh
I was there too

And when my son asks him
To play a game of war
My father is a German
And my son a partisan, like my dad

Sometimes I ask him
About the IB* and the price of freedom
Tired, he waves his hand
And leaves to water the flowers

Days are passing one by one
My father prays more and more
What is it that hurt him so much?
What is it that aches him so much?

My father is silent these days
He is fishing on the river Sava
How many tearful thoughts
Swarm in that good gray head

From the banks I shout
What's wrong with you?
Oh, my son, my dear son
Look at the river before you

From the banks I shout
What have you been giving your life for?
Oh, my son, my dear son
I'm looking down the river.

You're Leaving, I'm Leaving

Rust fell into your heart
With white game in solitude
Tears spreaded like sea foam
You're leaving, I'm leaving
Tonight 'round midnight

Roses are mute and fountain is dry
Just the swing is squeaking
Everything will go by
And our tomorrow is a new wound
You're leaving, I'm leaving
Tonight 'round midnight

I'm wating for you at our old place
People and dreams go by
And everything went by and disappeared
Heart stayed alone

You're not at our old place
Some trains passing
And everything went by and disappeared
Heart stayed alone
Heart stayed alone

Rust fell into your heart
It would like to sleep in solitude
Some distance called upon you
You're leaving, I'm leaving
Tonight 'round midnight

And then again I dream of you
You return to my dreams
And when the love disappears
Heart becomes a part of a couple

And then I kiss you in the dream
And you return to my restlessness
And everything went by and disappeared
Heart stayed alone
Heart stayed alone

I Have a Song for You

I have a song for you
That one waits for years
And patiently winks
From the faraway coasts

In it are all the dark horses
Which ran away long ago
Faces once known
I remember no more

I have a song for you
It wrote itself
From Silba to Santa Monica
It inhaled enough sea

In it - aroma of the summers past
Glow and misery of shabby world
In it - colour from the beautiful days
Falls over our wounds

I have a song for you
To touch you from the inside a bit
It will not chase away those sorrows
But it will soften them up

And time will stop for a moment
And for a short while we will know
Where the secret was hiding
Where the happiness stayed

I have a song for you
I'll play it later
May it slip
When memory bursts

Like you and me once
Musicians following us
To windows of dear women
In memory lanes
Like you and me once
Musicians following us
To windows of dear women
In memory lanes

I have a song for you
It's the true and only one
It walks through familiar paths
Without borders aor customs

Through rare minutes joy pours
Laughter for eyes to the heart
In it - we are still children
We are not broken yet

In it - we are still cildren
We haven't been judged yet

Like you and me once
Musicians following us
To windows of dear women
In memory lanes

Like you and me once
Musicians following us
To windows of dear women
In memory lanes

I have a song for you...

I Told You About That Already

Do you know
I too once had a city, streets...
Dear faces in the backyard...
A table under the chestnut...
Once...
Dusty image and a road made of dreams... Little girl...
My friend's song...
Childhood wakes up in my soul...
Picture it... a linden smell... and summer is here...
Later the snows...
I'm a wisp of fog under the neon light in winter...
I'm telling you... I had a friend, a brother to me...
Now a desert....
A longing song... Pacific made of sorrow and remembrance...
They say - fate...
That whore should be called pain... And the reasons...
Million of stories, but each one leads only to wastelands...
I ask do you know...
And I know you don't know nor will you ever understand...
And why should you?
Sorry, it's the bitter liquid talking nonsense through me
It's not nostalgia...
Which is a romantic, innocent infant compared to these conditions...
I will not mention war and horrors,
Politic and similar crap...
I will not repeat... Justice does not exist...
At least that much is clear...
I want to let a tear of love,
I make a good couple with it.
It's late, I know... night is slipping put...
Each one is a small eternity for me.
Yes, I know, you must go,
Oh, how annoying it is when last buses get lost...
I ask - do you know I too once had a city, streets...
Dear faces in the backyard... a table ander the chestnut...
Ah, I told you about that already.
